We offer over 50,000 products, including our own Dorma and Fogarty brands, across 170+ stores. Each is supported by a distribution centre, a manufacturing base, a home delivery network, two store support offices and a customer service centre.

Our story

Today Dunelm is a market leader in the £11bn UK homewares market. With over 170 stores across the country and a successful online operation - dunelm.com - we offer over 50,000 products across a broad range of categories. But where did it all begin?

1979

1979

Founder, Bill Adderley and his wife Jean take on a stall in Leicester Market selling curtains. Within a month they make a 600% profit.

1984

1984

First bricks-and-mortar Dunelm store founded in Churchgate, Leicester.

1988

1988

10 years in and with momentum growing, first flagship store opens in Leicester, East Street, offering warehouse facilities for expansion across the region.

1991

1991

First superstore opens in Rotherham, offfering premium brands such as Dorma, which the company goes on to acquire.

1996

1996

Bill’s son Will appointed CEO of the company in 1996, following in his father’s footsteps.

1999

1999

Now a household name in the Midlands, Dunelm Mill opens a head office with warehouse facilities in Syston, Leicestershire.

2001

The acquisition of a small custom-made curtains business marks mark the start of Dunelm’s made-to-measure service.

2002

2002

A landmark year as Dunelm opens its 50th store and a new central warehouse in Burton. The company goes on to open new stores at a rate of 10 each year.

A fully shoppable website goes live, with a dedicated warehouse below our Radcliffe store.

Dunelm Mill floated on the London Stock Exchange, marking the beginning of a new era for the company.

In Liverpool, the company opens its 100th store, having celebrated its 30th birthday in 2009.

To accommodate continued growth, Dunelm builds a new head office in Syston.

Company rebrands from ‘Dunelm Mill’ to ‘Dunelm’ – reflecting what our customers have called us for years.

In 2016 our family grew to include Worldstores.

Nick Wilkinson joins the business as our new CEO.

Dunelm Awards

Awarded double GOLD for both Favourite Home Retailer of the Year and Favourite Online Retailer of the Year at The House Beautiful Awards 2017. This is the sixth time Dunelm has been named House Beautiful’s Favourite Home Retailer of the Year, but the first time we took the top prize in both categories at the same time.

Dunelm ‘Be Committed Award Winners’ - our own colleagues voted for their peers to win this award.

Dunelm ‘Supplier of the year Award Winner for Hardgoods’ Servlite are one of our lighting suppliers.

Dunelm ‘Supplier of the year Award Winner for Softgoods’ SMD are one of our suppliers for Ready Made Curtains, Made to Measure Fabric and Bedding.

Dunelm ‘Store Manager of the Year Award Winner’. Ray Scott won our Store Manager of the Year Award and has now been promoted to Area Manager.
