Our Purpose

To help create the joy of truly feeling at home for now and for generations to come

OUR BUSINESS IS YOUR BUSINESS

It takes special qualities to build a thriving career here.

We put customers first in everything. And that means looking after the people who work for us. Because happy colleagues mean happy customers.

That said, our industry is highly competitive. Success in modern retail means getting it right at each and every point of contact with our customers, from online to in-store. We have to stay on our toes and constantly find new ways to delight our customers.

So we look for people who are keen to listen to customers and find new ways to make life easier for them. But it’s not just about improving the business. It’s also about improving yourself. There are plenty of career development opportunities plus the training and support to take advantage of them. That’s why ambition and motivation are important too.

This is a family business, but we also want you to see it as your business. That means making our business principles your own. You need to be ready to collaborate while taking individual ownership of everything you do. It can be challenging. But together we can make positive things happen.

Our People

Dunelm is committed to creating a fully inclusive environment that is representative of our customers and locations.

We recognise the value and importance in inclusion and diversity and welcome applications from all candidates regardless of sex, age, race, religion, disability, neuro-diversity, gender or sexual identity, socio-economic background or education.

It is important to us that our website is representative of those who work with us and we are committed to continuing our journey to a diverse and inclusive working environment. We turn that commitment into action through a number of important programmes and initiatives.

Access to Mentors

We have built a wide variety of mentors from across all areas of the business, who are keen to share their experiences and skills with colleagues that would benefit from this 1 to 1 support.

Mentoring links to our talent proposition of Know, Grow and Flow. It helps colleagues to find out more about themselves, define areas for growth and development and identify new opportunities and experiences to support their career aspirations.

Evolving our attitudes to flexible working

We have adapted our ways of working to make sure everyone can feel at home wherever they work. We have a flexible working option for all areas of the business. Our flexible ways of working at our Support Centres, includes work from home, part-time and seasonal contracts, and adjusted hours.

We believe that being able to have a flexible working environment is key to have a good work and home life balance as well as improved mental health and we are committed to looking into how we can implement this further in other areas of the business.

Inclusion and Diversity Network Groups

We have established a set of colleague network groups designed to support and celebrate communities within our business. Specifically, our groups are LGBTQ+, Gender, Ethnicity and Race and Disability and Neurodiversity. These network groups empower our colleagues to work collaboratively and make changes within the organisation to better support our colleagues now and for the generations to come.

Colleague Wellbeing

At Dunelm we are passionate about the wellbeing of our colleagues. We partner with charities such as Retail Trust, an organisation that supports our colleagues by offering counselling, financial grants, domestic abuse support and more to ensure the safety of our colleagues’ mental health. We also have a Colleague Support Fund where, if eligible, you can apply for non-repayable grants.

The wellbeing of our colleagues is very important to us, to support our colleagues we have created wellbeing buddies across our support sites who have been trained in mental health first aid, domestic abuse awareness and Dunelm support services. They offer a confidential service where they can signpost to the relevant support available inside and outside of Dunelm. Our next steps involve working towards introducing wellbeing buddies across the entire business, including stores.

What our colleagues say

There's no better way to learn about a business than to hear from the people who work there. In this series of short videos, Dunelm colleagues from all parts of the business share their stories.

Our Responsibilities

At Dunelm we always try to do the right thing.

As a business, we recognise climate change as the largest environmental issue facing organisations and the communities they serve.

That’s why we have set science-based carbon reduction targets that are aligned to net-zero and to reduce global warming to below 1.5 degrees.

Our sustainability journey is just beginning, but we are committed to growth that is sustainable, so we can help create the joy of truly feeling at home, now, and for the generations to come.

We also strive to give something back. Each year colleagues across the business focus on one charity, raising funds, selling charity merchandise and encouraging customers to donate.
