Vacancy Type:
Job Description

Do you have an interest in Textiles and enjoy using a sewing machine?

Would you like to earn whilst you learn as a Textiles Apprentice and gain a level 2 NVQ Qualification?

Our Textiles Apprenticeship is a 12 months programme based at our state-of-the art manufacturing centre in Birstall, Leicester. As you work through your apprenticeship we will gradually train up your sewing machine skills, so by the time you graduate you will be an important team member, producing beautiful curtains and roman blinds for our customers.

You will train and work on a sewing machine in the following areas:

  • Joining fabric widths together
  • Joining curtain linings and fabric widths together
  • Sewing up hems and corners on products
  • Sewing different heading types on to the products
  • Operating 3 different types of sewing machines to make up products – over-lock machine, lock stitch machine and blind stitch machine
  • Learn how to pattern match
  • Learn all about fabric construction
  • Learn how to use each type of sewing machine and understand how the sewing machine itself works

How we will support you:

The first 6 weeks: Company induction followed by 6 weeks classroom sewing machine training in our learning academy.  You will be tutored by our highly skilled training team, stage by stage on how to make a curtain from start to finish.

After your induction, you will then work in different sewing teams during the 12 months programme. You will work on each stage of the curtains being made, supported with close supervision and on the job training.

You’ll continue to have full support from our training team who will spend time with you in the learning academy, helping you to improve your sewing skills. You will also receive support from our apprenticeship training provider and the Dunelm apprentice programme team – as well as regular structured feedback on your development and progress to date. In addition, you’ll be guided at every step by an experienced former apprentice buddy.
