Product is the life blood of our business and our Buyers love every home, working tirelessly to make sure our customers have everything they need. This is the team that learn everything they can about the Dunelm customer by monitoring sales visiting stores to talk to customers and store colleagues so when the product lifecycle starts again, we are ready to build the best range we can.

As the Trainee Buyer, you will report to the Buyer and will play a key role to support the product sourcing and trading of your department. As part of your development you will also be given a small area or sub-product category to manage.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the buyer by creating product matrixes and boards to show product mix, option counts and price architecture to help sign off the range and drive sales.
  • Research and drive innovation for new products and trends to support the strategy of the department.
  • Review historical sales data with the Merchandising team to help propose new range direction.
  • Review the performance of new products with the Merchandising team and implement actions to maximise best sellers and reduce risk in underperformers.
  • Have a good product knowledge and understanding of customer needs, markets trends and competitor activity.
  • Produce comprehensive competitive shop analysis.
  • Present my product range of the department in strategy and sign off.
  • Sample management for the photo studio and mock shop.
  • Supplier management – attend supplier meetings and cost negotiation for your own product category.
  • Complete the Monday trading report with agreed actions. Actively trade the area of the department you are responsible for.
  • Co-ordinate product data gathering, complete article creates and maintain products on the system.
  • Obtain product images from suppliers for the website, Merchandise Excellence team and packaging team.
  • Assist in briefing the marketing team with any new packaging requirements.
  • Support the buyer with product approvals for launch.
  • Support the buyer in developing web exclusive products that complement and extend the in- store range.
  • Attend departmental progress meetings.
  • A proven track record as an Assistant Buyer working in a retail related business. Now ready to take responsibility for Buying a product category.
  • Passionate about the customer and the product.
  • Great communication skills.
  • A great eye for detail.
