We are transforming our Dunelm digital platform using cutting edge technologies such as React, Node.js, AWS Lambda, and have an exciting opportunity for an energetic and talented Graduate Software Engineer to join our rapidly expanding agile software development teams.

As a Graduate Engineer you will have a passion for software development and a strong aptitude and motivation to learn and develop your skills with help from Dunelm. You will learn how to define and deliver end-to-end vertical solutions iteratively and collaboratively with your colleagues. During the programme, you will be coached by the best tech colleagues and rotated around the Agile teams to gain skills and experience.

What will your 2-year programme look like:

We will give you experience to rotate around in different areas of our Software Engineering Departments. You'll gain a thorough insight (and real experience) into the integral role our Software Engineering team plays all the way through to how we really understand and put our customers first.

Throughout your 2-year programme you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and make a valuable impact within the following teams:

The Dunelm Engineering teams use the following skills and technology day-to-day:

  • Programming languages:
    • JavaScript, ES6
    • REST APIs
  • JavaScript frameworks: React, Node.js, Redux, Isomorphic, GraphQL, Flow, Jest
  • Testing: Unit testing, TDD, functional testing
  • UI/UX: responsive design, mobile design, cross browser development and modern HTML/CSS, e.g. HTML5, CSS3 and CSS pre-processors
  • Source control: Bit bucket
  • Working practices: Knowledge and experience of agile frameworks and practices: Scrum/Kanban, User stories, BDD/TDD, DevOps, Continuous Integration & Delivery, Pair Programming etc.
  • Application Lifecycle Management Tools: JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins
  • Web application architectures and designs
  • JavaScript Design Patterns and code modularization
  • AWS (Lambda / API Gateway, CloudFormation, SAM, Dynamo DB & Kinesis)



The fine print…

  • A minimum 2:1 degree in a Technology discipline
  • You will have high standards of written and verbal communication, as well as advanced analytical skills and problem-solving capability.
  • Knowledge of current software engineering technologies and techniques
  • Self-motivation and drive combined with excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Knowledge of one or more programming languages/frameworks relevant to the role
  • Pride in writing beautifully crafted, highly robust code
  • The ability to fit into teams of highly skilled, down-to-earth people and to have fun

You must be ready to start the programme beginning of September 2019
