To support this growth, we are recruiting an Interim Depot Manager on an initial 6-month contract with the opportunity to become a permanent member of the team for the right person. Based at the Stoke on Trent site, you will be reporting to the Home Delivery Network Support Manager. The role will be to lead the Stoke Home Delivery depot team in delivering a best in class service for our customers. You will be responsible for managing a team of c50 colleagues across drivers, warehouse, customer service liaison and site administration. This key leadership role will focus on customer service and maximising operational performance; all through an engaged and motivated team.

Role responsibilities:

  • Accountable for running a result focused depot operation through effective leadership of your team.
  • Responsible for creating a first class, customer service driven culture amongst the drivers and warehouse teams. Develop a “nothing is too much trouble” mentality across all members of your team.
  • Accountable for ensuring that the correct processes are being followed and the depot is fully compliant - reporting, vehicle compliance, and health and safety.
  • Responsible for overseeing the control of Tachograph reports and records of actions required.
  • Manage vehicle and driver compliance in accordance with regulation.
  • Manage fleet records in line with company policy and legislation.
  • Oversee the management of drivers’ hours, holiday, and sickness onto the appropriate records.
  • Responsible for the use of agency drivers for the depot.
  • Support in covering transport team duties when required in their absence.
  • Ensure regular maintenance of all vehicles under DVSA guidelines
  • Accountable for the compliance of transport law
  • Responsible for managing colleague costs in accordance to budget
  • Liaise with suppliers and service providers to achieve a positive outcome
  • Oversee the planning of routes to ensure deliveries are scheduled efficiently.
  • Monitor customer feedback and set colleague objectives accordingly.
  • Accountable for colleague engagement at the Depot.
  • Oversee and manage all people processes within the Depot.

Skills required:

  • A proven track record in leadership roles – inspiring, engaging, coaching and developing large teams.
  • Effective stakeholder management across the wider business.
  • Familiarity with transport management systems
  • Competent in transport operations legislation
  • Working knowledge of transport/driver hours and regulations
  • Knowledge of transport legislation and Operators Licencing
  • Previous experience with two-man home delivery would be a distinct advantage
  • An understanding of drivers working time directive.
  • Able to plan customer service under tight cost control.
  • Familiar with working within a high-performance culture.
  • Strong PC skills
  • Experience of budget management
  • Effective Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • CPC holder (essential)
  • I.O.S.H (desirable)
