Job Description
We are transforming our Dunelm digital platform using the latest technologies such as Scala, React, Node.js, AWS Lambda, and have an exciting opportunity for an energetic and talented a Full Stack Developer to join our rapidly expanding Agile teams.

As a Full Stack Developer you will have a passion for software development and an excellent understanding of how to define and deliver end-to-end vertical solutions iteratively and collaboratively. You will be involved in all areas of delivery, with the technical gravitas to mentor and inspire the development team, playing an integral part in helping them continuously improve by sharing your own knowledge, experience and insights.

You will be confident and diplomatic in challenging business requirements to ensure you are continuously delivering the best possible outcome, harnessing innovation and driving adoption of new technologies to deliver business value. Your vision and ambition will contribute to shaping our online technology road map, influencing our future technical direction and balancing passion with precision to deliver exceptional online service and solutions for our customers.  You will take pride in the robust code, automated tests and slick functionality you deliver in conjunction with your teammates.

Roles & responsibilities:

  • Actively part of sprint planning, backlog grooming and task estimation
  • Elaboration of user stories (technical and functional) into design sketches and coding tasks
  • Hands-on design and development within a self-organizing and cross-functional agile team using techniques such as Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Pair Programming
  • Writing comprehensive automated test code as well as application code and infrastructure as code
  • Responsible for the quality implementation (supportable, maintainable, scalable and secure) of code
  • Influence the design and technology stack and technical direction of the team
  • Champion and coach peers in software engineering best practices and best of breed technology
  • Ensure that the status of agile tickets worked on is updated promptly and highlight blockers in time to get them resolved
  • Creation of POC's / Spike development and active involvement in technology evaluation
  • Participate in regular showcases of new business capability to the product owners and other business stakeholders
  • Proactively help to resolve production issues and contribute to release management
Mandatory skills:
  • Programming languages:
    • JavaScript, ES6
    • REST APIs
    • Java/Scala
    • JavaScript frameworks: Node.js
  • Testing: Unit testing, TDD, functional testing
  • Source control: e.g. GIT
  • Working practices: Knowledge and experience of agile frameworks and practices: Scrum/Kanban, User stories, BDD/TDD, DevOps, Continuous Integration & Delivery, Pair Programming etc.

    Desirable skills:

  • JavaScript frameworks: React, Redux, Isomorphic, GraphQL, Flow, Jest
  • UI/UX: Accessibility, responsive design, mobile design, cross browser development and modern HTML/CSS techniques like HTML5, CSS3 and CSS pre-processors like SASS and/or LESS.
  • Application Lifecycle Management Tools: JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins (or similar)
  • Web application architectures and designs
  • JavaScript Design Patterns and code modularization
  • AWS (Lambda / API Gateway, CloudFormation, SAM, Dynamo DB & Kinesis)
