Role Summary

A new exciting role has opened up, after internal promotion and are now seeking a Digital Operation Engineer, reporting to the Digital Operations Manager.

As part of Digital Operations, you will provide 3rd Line Support for our Digital platform. This includes (but not limited to), picking tickets and investigating bugs/performance issues/ general question about system / enhancements to current services. You will be working very closely with our in-house development team to fix / develop well-tested solution and pushing it through our deployment cycle.

In doing so, you’ll make estimates of delivery times and push back on any details that are unclear or require greater awareness on the Business Analyst’s part, taking into account any integrations, performance, maintainability etc that may affect what is possible/sensible.

You will be working with the latest technology. Many of our microservices are built in Symfony3, Zend Expressive and everything is hosted in the cloud using AWS where we are using wide verity of AWS services, such as Lamda / SQS.

Any ongoing maintenance and bug fixing is dealt with by you and your colleagues in the  Digital Operations Team.

This is both a customer-facing and hands-on role. There will be instances when you will need to chase up team members and other business units to ensure things haven’t dropped off the radar and that there is a timely resolution to each issue. You will need to communicate clear, concise direction to the wider team/business where relevant - explaining major incidents, progress reports etc

What You'll Do:
 
Resolve operational problems within the defined schedules and service level agreements.
Analyse root causes of operational malfunctions and provide resolutions.
Handle escalated issues and follow-up on outstanding issues promptly.
Develop preventive measures and document issue resolution procedures.
Address customer issues promptly and accurately.
Forward Plan the release window and cycles across a portfolio.
Manage risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
 Measure and monitor progress to ensure application releases are 
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who is a talented and diligent Web Developer with MVC experience. You will be used to working to the highest standards and support others in following great design principles such as SOLID.

Essential Skills

• 1+ years with Linux based environments.
• 1+ years with front-end technologies such as HTML, and CSS.
• Good knowledge of JavaScript (Node, React, Typescript will be big plus)
• MySQL queries and database schema design.
• Good to strong understanding of MVC frameworks (Symfony2, Zend Expressive a plus).
• Experience with Git, Apache server config/management, deployment, testing, requirements docs, etc. are all great
• Some knowledge of agile and scrum methodologies
• Ability to work in a collaborative environment and/or solo
• Desire to always learn new skills

Desirable

Knowledge of AWS services ( Lamda / SQS /  Serverless a plus)
Experience with Python is a plus.

Outside of a strong grasp of software engineering fundamentals we are looking for an Engineer  who embraces modern working practises. You will be familiar with Agile processes including TDD and you should be confident that you can convert a user story into a software solution with little direction.

You will not be purely “code focused” and insular around coding. You’ll look at the “bigger picture” when creating products including security, performance and maintainability and not be afraid to speak up where you see compromises being made.

You’ll also be comfortable seeking support and a natural collaborator. Where you require direction, you should be able to take several different solutions to a more senior member of your team for discussion, before reaching a decision together.
